Create your very own wireless MIDI controller for Traktor

This awesome video gave me a great idea! It simply shows how you can easily create your very own wireless MIDI controller! Get on the dancefloor and join the crowd... still connected to you trusted Traktor. :) Don't need it to spin, but that is a pretty cool visual effect.

First off the sending of Midi is done by M-audio MidAir.

Get a pad controller like this Korg Midi Pad

Now for the only DIY part:

  1. Get a 9 volt battery box (Optional)
  2. Find a connector that fits a 9 volt battery (Often found in the small roof mounted fire alarms, but don't steal one that is currently working.)
  3. Find a connector that fits the poweradaptor for the Korg padKONTROL (You could use the power adapter that came with the product)
  4. Cut cables and solder the correct poles of the battery to fit the power plug. (The marked one is often the + pole)
Now simply install the remote MIDI unit to your computer and connect the system. Do your mapping and enjoy!

DIY Controllers is so cool!

The sky is the limit!! (This is probably for Ableton though)
The guys at DJTT wrote an article last week about the components that can be used and listed pros and cons each one. You should read it. CLICK HERE

Traktor is great for mapping LEDs aswell as buttons!
Just yesterday they listed some cool DIY controllers that are out there.
Traktor is like made for this and no other DJ software can compete when it comes to MIDI mapping and creating your own ways of working with music.

Teenage Engineering OP-1

It's a bit off topic, but since it's so freakin' cool I just had to tell you about this awesome synth.

Teenage Engineering made a synth called OP-1 which is one of the coolest music device out there. It you want to have a small portable synth with your DJ setup and just be über fantastic. This is the way to go.

Check out this video from Skratchworx.

And... If you think you've seen it before? You're probably right! Swedish House Mafia used in the music video for their super hot track: One

Four decks in Traktor

It's monday and Youtube time again.
There are alot of four deck controllers in sale now and the argument to look elsewhere is: What do I need four decks for?? I was looking to show you a good example on using four decks.
Came across this video which is pretty old, but for those of you who haven't seen it, get ready to be amazed.
This must be a goal for any DJ.

This guy (DJ B33son) won the DJ contest that DJ Techtools had some time ago with this entry.
Also... The comments... Hehehe...

What?

I found this sign posted right next door. Seriously... I can't understand
why my neighbours have the need to put up a sign to let us know about
their childrens mental capabilities... Or does the sign contain a
deeper message? You tell me!

Retro Traktors

After searching Google for some fresh info about Traktor I got this header: Traktor is the best MP3 DJ software. Opening the website made me laugh a bit. Talk about a retro website. Recommend updating.

Check out this website: dj-tips-and-tricks.com

This retro page wanted me to make this collage:
Traktor DJ Studio
Traktor DJ Studio 2
Traktor Final Scratch
Traktor Studio 3
Traktor Pro

The Mouth

Tim Exile who made also gave us The Finger (haha) has together with Native Instruments made a new gadget to add to NIs massive Effects/Synth/Plugin arsenal. The newest gadget in their arsenal is The Mouth.

Both The Finger and The Mouth could be nice tools to have if you are a DJ. Either for making live effects or your very own Voice promo samples. This could be usefull if you do radio shows and recorded stuff, but in my opinion pretty tacky if you're doing a live performance... Except maybe in the begining of a show.

Notice the S4 controller in the midle of the video. :)

You could use it as a live filter and can create some really nice and very cool effects. :)
If you check out fourth loop of the audio samples on track number 6 on the official page you can hear an AWSOME vocoder effect. :)

Be creative!!!!

The line between musicians and DJs are getting pretty blury. The S4 will make it possible for alot of people to get creative. THIS is what digital DJing is all about.

Controllerism for Gamers!

There are alot of cool controllers on the market for controlling Traktor. One can use any kind of controller as an interface as long as you can map your signals right. Software like GlovePIE can be used for bridging the gap between bluetooth data to MIDI signals and it's this software most of the people using DJ Hero, Guitar Hero and Wii controllers as MIDI devices.
